CONTROL ROOMS’ MODERNIZATION FOR A GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT ORGANIZATION

Government law enforcement organization in Chile coordinates and oversees strategic operations across the country’s armed forces. Operating in a highly sensitive and mission-critical environment, the organization relies on secure, reliable control rooms to support situational awareness, coordination, and decision-making at the highest level.

The project focused on the modernization of three control rooms designed to support monitoring, coordination, and operational oversight, with multiple information sources visualized and managed within a secure and structured environment.

The goal was to modernize the mission-critical control room environment by improving display capacity and usability, while ensuring seamless integration of diverse applications, reliable performance, and a simple, operator-friendly video wall management experience

The main control room had been in operation for over six years, relying on aging hardware and an 8-monitor video wall that no longer met current operational needs.

The initial setup was based on VuWall and provided a reliable foundation for daily operations. Over time, operational needs evolved: a larger display surface was required, greater flexibility in content management became necessary, and the need emerged to deploy two additional control rooms in separate locations – one on another floor of the same building and another in a different facility.

As part of this evolution, the main control room was expanded from an 8-monitor configuration to a 12-monitor video wall. This upgrade, together with the broader control room expansion, required a consistent technical architecture, secure operation, and the ability to manage multiple critical information sources simultaneously across all environments.

The challenge was to modernize the setup without disrupting ongoing activities, ensure consistent user experience across all rooms, and support simultaneous use of video conferencing, CCTV, web-based applications, and operator desktops without latency or loss of image quality

As the foundation for the control room development project, the organization selected Polywall as the central video wall management platform across all three control rooms. The solution design focused on standardizing operations and simplifying daily workflows across all three control rooms.

Now control room operators use Polywall platform to:

• Organize, open, and manage multiple applications on the video wall from a single, intuitive interface;
• Display CCTV feeds, video conferencing sessions, web-based monitoring tools, and operational applications simultaneously;
• Adjust layouts and content in real time based on operational needs.

This operational setup provides supervisors and decision-makers with a clear, shared view of ongoing activities, improving coordination, situational awareness, and the quality of operational briefings without adding complexity to daily work.

To support collaboration and information sharing during briefings, secure replication of operator desktops onto the video wall in the main control room is provided through Polywall Streamer. Such flexible sharing capabilities power up the organization’s effective briefings, collaboration, and shared situational awareness. While multiple operators work in the room, video wall control is typically handled by a single operator to maintain clarity and avoid conflicts.

All three rooms share an identical architecture, consisting of a dedicated video wall controller with one output per display, professional-grade LCD panels, and Polywall control room software. This consistent setup ensured reliable performance, simplified deployment, and a uniform user experience across all locations.

The designed solution was deployed across three control rooms using a consistent and robust technical setup, adapted to each room’s size and operational needs.

Thanks to the modernization, the organization’s control rooms now provide a more comfortable, flexible, and efficient operational environment. Control room operators can easily combine different information sources on the video wall and adapt layouts in real time, supporting clearer coordination and faster decision-making during daily operations and critical situations.
