Operation Centers for XVIII Pan American Games

Ensuring Seamless Operations And Security for One of the Largest Multi-Sport Events in the Americas

The Special Project Committee for the Preparation and Delivery of the XVIII Pan American Games in Lima was responsible for organizing and executing the largest multi-sport event ever held in Peru. The Pan American Games, held every four years, are a major international sporting event featuring summer sports in which thousands of athletes from the Americas compete. As a continental counterpart to the Olympic Games, they serve as both a prestigious championship and a qualifying event for the Olympics. This edition brought together over 6,000 athletes from 41 countries and territories, demanding meticulous coordination across venues, transport, media, and public safety — where operational clarity and rapid responsiveness were mission-critical.
Deployment of a centralized visual monitoring and control system to support security and operations during the Pan American Games.
The project was aimed to provide the Pan American Games Operations Committee with a scalable and agile visual infrastructure for real-time monitoring, cross-agency coordination, and rapid situational awareness—essential for the smooth, secure delivery of an international event of this scale.

Project Goal

Managing dozens of venues, thousands of participants, and 24/7 logistics required a real-time visual command infrastructure.

The organizing team needed:

Project Background

Centralized monitoring of CCTV, IPTV, and operational video streams from all key locations.
Since the control rooms were temporary, the system had to be fast to deploy, with minimal cabling and infrastructure.
Full Visibility Across All Venues
Minimal Setup Time
Unified Control Interface
A robust platform capable of handling intensive operations non-stop throughout the Games. The AV solution was designed and deployed by TELVICOM, one of the region’s leading systems integrators, with Polywall control room software providing the software backbone for visual control and content distribution.
Seamless management of visual content across multiple displays, enabling fast response to incidents and operational tasks.
Around-the-Clock Reliability
The games were monitored via several temporary operations centers that kept track of the tournaments and monitored security.

The operations process required the display of numerous video feeds on various screens. The video feeds came from different sources, such as IPTV streaming of sports competitions, CCTV feeds to monitor safety and some operational videos for internal purposes.

These video streams were displayed in the Main Operation Center (MOC) and TELCO Operation Center on 4 Videowalls, 2 Video Projectors and 5 49” TV’s.

The key task of the project was to minimize the response time of both operational centers. All the content had to be managed centrally. The system had to work 24/7 and be easily administered. As the installation was temporary for the period of the games, it was important for the customer to use minimal cabling.
The solution comprised two main control environments: the Main Operations Center (MOC) and the TELCO Operations Center. Each featured large-format video walls and displays controlled through the Polywall control room software platform.

Main Operations Center Configuration:
  • Two 3x3 video walls (Samsung 55" displays)
  • One 3x2 video wall (LG 55" displays)
  • HITACHI and EPSON projectors
  • 49” Advance TV
  • PC with Polywall software installed

TELCO Operations Center Configuration:
  • One 3x2 video wall (LG 49" displays)
  • Four 49” Advance TVs
  • PC with Polywall software

  • Operational Control at Scale: The organizing team gained a centralized, always-on visual hub for overseeing every moving part of the Games.
  • Fast, Informed Decisions: Live video feeds from across Lima allowed operations staff to respond in real time to disruptions or emergencies.
  • Reliable 24/7 Performance: The Polywall platform ensured stable, uninterrupted operation throughout the event schedule.

Polywall’s intuitive interface enabled operators to manage live streams, rearrange layouts on the fly, and react quickly to any incidents across venues. Polywall helped manage content on all display devices (video walls, projectors and TV’s). The system's flexibility allowed teams to switch between competition monitoring, logistics coordination, and emergency response—all within the same environment. Another important factor was the availability of customer support.

By integrating Polywall’s advanced video wall management capabilities, the Pan American Games project highlighted how it helps organizers deliver large-scale, high-security events with confidence. Thanks to an AV infrastructure tailored to the dynamic pace of the Games, the committee maintained full situational control—even in the intense atmosphere of global attention.
